It's time to swap the headrest for some bedrest. Say hello to the world's first sleep pods in the sky, the Skynest™. Air New Zealand’s Skynest™ is a lie flat rest experience for Economy class passengers. A standalone monument on the main deck of the aircraft it is comprised of 6 lie flat bunks for passengers to rest, stretch out and boost their physical and mental wellbeing during their journey.

Crew Rest Compartment for Single Aisle Aircraft
For narrow body aircrafts in long range operation, there is a need for the crew members to regenerate, to rest and stretch out.
The idea is to use the space between the first passenger seat row and the door area for a stowage module with integrated foldable elements. These elements fold down on top of the cabin attendant seats (CAS), using them as static substructure to build up two full flat beds. For boarding, deboarding and evacuation, the beds can be easily folded up and pushed back into the stowage module in seconds.
This module, which is also retrofittable, will enable the airlines to fulfil the requirement providing a crew rest possibility. Additionally, the payload surface in the cabin is only minimal claimed in comparison to a full seat row for the crew. The module can also be used as medical compartment, or could be optionally booked by passengers.

Jump Seat Duo
A commercial passenger airplane jump seat which can be used both as a flight attendant seat and an aisle wheelchair for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM). The proposed concept does not compromise functionality of currently used flight attendant seats while providing integrated solution for fully featured aisle wheelchair. Straight-forward operation ensures that the jump seat can be quickly switched between two use cases by flight crew while freeing space in overhead stowage compartments by eliminating the need to carry a separate aisle wheelchair onboard.

Onboard Data Center
Thales’ Onboard Data Center (ODC) features 6 patented technologies. Its hyperconverged architecture revolves around individual blades that support multiple functions. These blades share storage and compute capabilities, resulting in an aggregated storage space 10 times higher than the average IFE server. Each blade can be replaced or upgraded depending on the airlines’ needs.
Software is smartly distributed and redounded across blades to optimize onboard resources in real-time. In the event of one or two blades shutting down, service remains up and running without any impact on the passenger experience. The Onboard Data Center’s availability reaches 99.99%.
The ODC brings web-based technologies onboard, drastically improving software & content deployment processes. It enables the virtualization of the entire software stack, removing the need for tests on physical labs. The ODC also enables software & content deployment at the click of a button in less than 12 hours on the entire fleet.

Humidification Onboard Pure Air
We have already solved the problem of extreme dry air and now want to ADD function and remove "the fumes" VOC - Volatile Organic Compounds and Ozone from the cabin coming from re-fueling and de-icing on the ground as well as from the aircraft bleed air during flight.
The solution is to ADD an "Active Carbon Filter" to the already existing humidifier pad in our humidifiers within the same existing space envelope.
The "Active Carbon Filter" is cleaning the air from VOC fumes and Ozone while the air at the same time is being humidified, not adding anything to the ECS system nor to the service and logistics of the airlines.

Collins Aerospace InteliSence™ elevates the level of service for passengers by providing airlines and crew with reliable, predictive information about their ideal travel experience. This predictive information also helps airlines optimize power consumption, on-board provisions and crew workloads.
Utilizing an array of cameras, sensors, edge-computed video analytics and deep-learning Artificial Intelligence, Collins’ InteliSence monitors interactions and collects information from objects within the seat environment. Data from glasses, plates, personal electronics and more is collected and communicated to the service team – ensuring drinks are refilled sooner, bedding is made quicker and faulty equipment is remedied rapidly.

In 2022, Airbus has launched Airspace Link HBCplus, its new flexible satellite high bandwidth connectivity solution that will be offered as an optional linefit supplier-furnished equipment (SFE) and also for retrofit on all Airbus programmes. HBCplus, which initially encompasses Ka-band services, will enable airlines to connect to a choice of Managed Service Providers (MSPs) via a new agnostic terminal and radome built as part of the aircraft to simplify the operational connectivity environment.

The life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrates an improvement over the state of the art and can be further improved by combining the Furan resin with recycled carbon fibre (rCF) reinforcement. The further improvement in LCA with the rCF is achieved because the need for virgin carbon fibre is eliminated and byproducts from production processes, or suitable sources of recycled carbon fibre, can be used thereby reducing the net waste disposal or landfilling. The project is one of Airbus’ steps towards the introduction of a more sustainable material in the secondary structure (interiors).

Cabin Lining with integrated Vacuum Insulation
The new composite structures with integrated vacuum insulation are developed for applications in the aircraft cabin. These compounds possess extremely high insulation properties at minimal thickness, thus being an efficient solution, which can lead to a reduction in energy consumption. The application of vacuum insulation will save energy, which is required for the thermal cabin comfort and specific cabin systems, such as galleys and the cabin air supply.

Deep Dyed Carpet
Conventional aviation carpets use a yarn dyeing process. This process is slow and energy intensive. Complex and colorful patterns end up increasing carpet weight, costs and risk to meet all airworthiness requirements.
With Lantal's DEEP DYED CARPET an innovative, sustainable and environmentally friendlier carpet dyeing process is introduced. As the demand for lightweight products increases and pressure on the industry to speed up production and reduce minimum order quantities grows, this solution is a step towards an eco-friendly future in aviation.
Imagine a lightweight carpet where design possibilities are unlimited, samples are ready within hours and waste is tremendously reduced. Available today with - DEEP DYED CARPET

Lightweight Aircraft Seating
TU Delft, coop. Embraer S.A., Maartje Ballemans & Thomas Hogeveen
A new lightweight, comfortable and sustainable seat design by using Fused Deposition Modelling to print the TPU cushioning. By using this technique, a cushion with different gyroid infill percentages can be made, that supports the human body where needed. This way no extra weight is used, only what is necessary. And this improves the comfort of the passenger on short/medium distance flights. TPU does not need flame retardant coating, this way it can be fully recycled at the end of life.

The Horus seat, under the guidance of Embraer is a novel lightweight aircraft seat concept designed for short-haul hydrogen propelled aircrafts being designed by Embraer. With an aim for production in the decade of 2030 – 40, the aircrafts require lightweight but strong components in the interiors to reduce the cost of weight (fuel efficiency). The approximate calculated weight of the designed and prototyped seat is 6,1 kg. In addition, the seat is designed to not compromise on comfort and user experience whilst being sustainable and giving opportunities for circularity.

TU Delft, Rens Kiekels, Floris Priester, Daantje Vogels, Daan den Hollander, Maria Sofia Clercy Lao & Max Nijhuis
Alba is a concept that is shaped to the human spine, showing the first feasible archetype of a fully netted seating design.
Achieving a total weight of 7.5 kg/pax, while being 17 mm thinner than the industry-leading seat and consisting of only two aviation certified - recyclable mono materials. By passing initial force-testing and other seating requirements, the seat proves that a fully netted design is achievable short term, with an incredible optimisation potential long term.
With the Alba Seating Concept, airlines will save weight, while improving comfort and recyclability.
