Cabin Concepts

This category is provided for full cabin concepts that are already existent or at a market-ready stage. A cabin concept composes different cabin elements to one coherent cabin product, enhancing the passenger experience through technology and design . The Cabin Concepts category is tailored for airlines as well as manufacturers and design companies. Applicants should explain why their product is innovative as requested for every category.

Cabin Systems

The category Cabin Systems comprises all new products that mean a major benefit for the airline e.g. seats, galleys, lavatories, trolleys, air conditioning, electrical systems, electronic cabin management systems, waste & potable water systems, acoustics and many more. Efficiency of mechanical solutions will be evaluated e.g. Further criteria are ergonomic advantages and ease of implementation.

Electronic Systems

This category caters the fastest growing product range in the aviation industry and includes inflight entertainment, as well as on board-connectivity and communications solutions.  Entries must show a noticeable benefit to passenger experience on board, be it through innovative entertainment solutions, communications technology enabling superior connectivity, or ideally, both.

Greener Cabin, Health, Safety and Environment

This category combines different classes of innovations. An entry for this category must either reduce negative effects on the environment, or it must minimize health or safety hazards and security problems for passengers, staff or live cargo. European and international legislation compliance will be taken into consideration for the evaluation of the entry. The innovation should not restrict an individual’s comfort unnecessarily to gain high marks.

Material & Components

Developing new materials, new material applications or a new combination of materials for cabin systems can cut production costs and maximize usability. This category embraces an enormous variety of different aircraft components. Entries can be an innovative, single technical component, or material, but not a fully developed product like a seat.

Passenger Comfort Hardware

Travelling comfortably is an important business factor for airlines. This category has been created for great demands in passenger comfort. Therefore entries must improve passenger comfort within the cabin for all or for specific groups of passengers. An innovation that is of general use to a large group of individuals may well achieve higher marks due to its increased effectiveness for the airline´s success. This category includes e.g. economy seats, lavatories, bins, partitions, lighting system, linings, premium, business, first class products, VIP products etc.

This category provides room for college and university students to present their visions for innovative products and concepts for aircraft interior. It should reflect the idea of making flying more comfortable or ecological. By submitting an application in this category students would benefit from gaining important contacts within the industry regarding their professional future.

Visionary Concepts

Visionary Concepts can give us an impression of aircraft cabins of tomorrow. How can we provide air transport in the future without loss of comfort while current technologies and practices (e.g. carbon based fuel) become more and more limiting? How can technical concepts, ergonomic ideas and aesthetic design enhance passenger comfort and aircraft efficiency? This category relates to not-yet-existing engineering concepts and design studies.
