Greener Cabin, Health, Safety & Environment
This category combines different classes of innovations. An entry for this category must either reduce negative effects on the environment, or it must minimise health or safety hazards and security problems for passengers, staff or live cargo. European and international legislation compliance will be taken into consideration for the evaluation of the entry. The innovation should not restrict an individual’s comfort unnecessarily to gain high marks.

Industrial Design & Visionary Concepts
This category comprises Industrial Design of products, modules and assemblies that enhance efficiency. Effectiveness and efficiency of mechanical solutions and technical concepts will be evaluated here as well as their aesthetic design. Further evaluation criteria are ergonomic advantages and ease of implementation and usage. This category includes e.g. seats, galleys, lavatories, trolleys, etc.
Visionary concepts can give us an impression of aircraft cabins of tomorrow. How can we provide air transport in the future without loss of comfort while current technologies and practices (especially carbon based fuel) become more and more limiting? How can passenger comfort and aircraft efficiency even be raised?

Material & Components
Developing new materials or new material applications for cabin systems can cut production costs and maximise usability. This category embraces an enormous variety of different aircraft components. Entries can be an innovative, single technical component, or material, but not a fully developed product like a seat.

Passenger Comfort Hardware
Travelling comfortably is an important business factor for airlines. This catregory has been created for great demands in passenger comfort. Therefore entries must improve passenger comfort within the cabin for all or for specific groups of passengers. An innovation that is of general use to a large group of individuals may well achieve higher marks due to its increased effectiveness for the airline´s success. This category includes e.g. economy seats, lavatories, bins, partitions, linings etc.

Passenger Comfort Systems
Travelling comfortably is an important business factor for airlines. This category has been created for great demands in passenger comfort. Therefore entries must improve passenger comfort within the cabin for all or for specific groups of passengers. An innovation that is of general use to a large group of individuals may well achieve higher marks due to its increased effectiveness for the airline´s success. This category includes e.g. IFE, climate, lighting, air conditioning, electric and electronic systems, connectivity, etc.

Premium Class & VIP
A comparison of economy class products with premium products is often not appropriate as premium products are more complex. They differ because of their different utilization offering a certain luxury state. This category includes Premium/ Business/ First Class/ VIP products including full cabin designs.

University/College
The entry of a university or college will be evaluated among all university and college applications. In case there will be less than three university entries on the short-list, each university candidate will be evaluated among the applicants of the other categories.
Therefore, each university applicant has to indicate one of the other six categories in addition.
